On Saturday February 20, the Virginia Open was held at the Barcroft Sport and Fitness Center in Arlington. Team Bushikai Hidama took three competitors to the tournament. After a delayed start, competition got underway with the youngest Boys divisions first. All divisions were round robin. Being that this was our first competition since November, there was some mat rust to overcome and that was evident in all of our fighters. Overall we had a good day however, bringing home two medals with three competitors.

he matches. I will grant that Orlagh made a strategic mental mistake in going for a major throw being up 1 waza-ari plus 1 yuko to her opponents 2 yuko. I like that attitude of constant attacking and though it cost her the match because of fatigue, her opponents counter was at best yuko. I will give Orlagh credit for mental toughness though because she came back later to beat that same girl in 33 seconds with a waza-ari Ogoshi and pin for Ippon.
