Leadership Change at Bushikai

It is with deep regret that we announce the departure of Kaicho Michael McGee from the Bushikai Dojo in Frederick, Maryland. As you may know, McGee Sensei founded the Bushikai Dojo from the Genbukan Maryland Dojo after departing from the Genbukan system. However in recent years his involvement in the daily activities of the Bushikai has waned, though he continues to actively train at his personal dojo in West Virginia. McGee Sensei intends to continue his personal training with a select few students. He has decided that the Bushikai dojo in Frederick should continue in its present form without him at the helm.

In late 2001, daily operation of the dojo was turned over to Harry Mackenzie, Renshi, while McGee Sensei continued to function in the role of Kaicho, directing the development of curriculum and overseeing the operation of the Bushikai organization and its affiliate branches. Over the following years, Mackenzie Renshi assumed more and more of the responsibility for oversight of the affiliate branches as well as growth of the headquarters dojo, while McGee Sensei focused more on the development of curriculum and other various projects.

With the departure of McGee Sensei, Mackenzie Renshi has assumed full authority for the Bushikai dojo in Frederick and its various functions, and any questions regarding the future direction of this Dojo and its affiliate in Nova Scotia should be directed to him. This change has resulted in the relinquishing of the title of Hombucho by Mackenzie Renshi and a change of name for the Dojo in Frederick. The dojo is now known as Bushikai Bugei Hidama Dojo.

We wish success to McGee Sensei in his future endeavors and thank him for his many years of service to Bushikai and the Frederick martial arts community.
